Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has announced his retirement from football

Spanish World Cup victor Fernando Torres said Sunday his body could no longer cope with the physical demands of football after announcing his retirement from the game.

"After 18 exciting years, the time has come to put an end to my football career", he said on social media. "Next Sunday, June 23, held a press conference in Tokyo, where I'll tell you all about it. See you there", wrote Fernando Torres in Twitter. He helped Sagan narrowly escape relegation from the top flight a year ago, with the club finishing 14th in the 18-team table, but the team is at the bottom of the J1 table after 16 matches this season. Is it the red of Spain, Liverpool, or Atletico Madrid?

He was at his most prolific at Liverpool between 2007 and 2011, when he scored 81 goals in 142 games across all competitions. Chelsea brought him to the Stamford Bridge in a deal worth €58 million in 2011.

He remained a serious threat in the following two campaigns despite numerous injury problems, netting 32 times from 46 games, but in 2010-11 he sought a new challenge and moved to Chelsea for £50m, winning a Champions League title with the Blues. He also won the FA Cup with Chelsea.

After 45 goals in 172 games at Chelsea and a brief four-month loan spell at AC Milan, he returned to Atletico in late 2014.

He was signed by Atletico in a free transfer after his contract expired with Chelsea.
