Flying from her home in Seattle, Knox touched down in Milan early Thursday morning and headed straight for the northern city of Modena where she is due appear as a guest speaker at a panel discussion about wrongful convictions and miscarriages of justice organised by legal charity The Italy Innocence Project, CNN reports.

"And then, of course, Netflix chose to advertise "Amanda Knox" with twin massive billboards in L.A. and NY: my face and the words "monster" on one and "victim" on the other", Knox wrote in her Medium post. Knox was originally convicted and imprisoned before an appeals court acquitted her.

Amanda Knox, the USA exchange student jailed for four years then acquitted for the 2007 murder of her roommate in the Italian town of Perugia, returned to Italy on Thursday to address a conference on wrongful convictions.

Sentenced to 26 years in jail, Knox served four years before an initial acquittal on appeal in 2011. She was later cleared along with her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. In 2013 she was convicted for a second time after a retrial.

"I'm about to return to Italy for the first time since I was released from prison and fled the country in a high-speed chase, paparazzi literally ramming the back of my stepdad's rental vehicle", Knox wrote in a Medium post. "That said, @manunderbridge & I did write this piece for @Medium about what happens when your life becomes someone else's content".

"While on trial for a murder I didn't commit, my prosecutor painted me as a sex-crazed femme fatale, and the media profited for years by sensationalizing an already sensational and utterly unjustified story", Knox wrote. "That was freakish, and it was freakish in a way that forced me to reckon with what it meant for my life to be other people's content", she wrote. "But this doesn't mean I'm happy with the way my life is consumed or how the lives of others get reduced to content".
