Unseeded pair Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan caused an upset in the mixed doubles, beating second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Mate Pavic 6-1 7-6 (7-5) to win the title on Friday.

Ok, it's not the greatest of sells to a French Open, I'll give you that.

"So it's a handsome challenge for him as a player and for me as a coach".

The Austrian is widely recognized as being an improved player from a year ago, and heads into the encounter ranked fourth in the world.

So will Nadal, who is on the brink of an 18th major title, which would put him only two shy of Federer's record and make him the only player to have won a slam 12 times.

It was 2009 champion Federer's first French Open campaign since 2015, after skipping the clay-court season for two years in order to be better prepared for Wimbledon.

The eighth seed blazed through the first five games, going up 5-0, 40-15 in the first, but the momentum suddenly shifted as Anisimova rallied back to take the opening set and capture the first three games of the second set.

Nadal made only 19 unforced errors, crushing 33 winners as Federer struck 25, although that amount could easily have been doubled against any opponent other than the 11-time champion.

The 38th-ranked Vondrousova hadn't dropped a set before the final.

Novak Djokovic said his shock Roland Garros defeat to Dominic Thiem, which ended his dream of becoming just the second man in history to hold all Grand Slam titles at the same time twice, was played out in "hurricane conditions".

"I think it's really important that I go into the match with the belief to win", he said.

The match lasted two days after it was suspended early in the third set due to rain on Friday.

He busted up Moraes' nose with punches, crushed him with a knee to the body, took him down and took top position. Cejudo is looking to become only the fourth fighter in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time.

Thiem is attempting to win his first major title, Nadal his 18th.

But Thiem more than deserves to be facing Nadal again in Paris, and for the third time in a major in the past year.

It is the first Grand Slam final for either player.

Tournament organisers said that fans holding tickets for the semi-final will be fully refunded as they will not be valid for Saturday.

"When the supervisor came on the court, he said as long as there are no flying objects coming on to the court, we're good", fumed Djokovic. Thiem has now lost at least one set in four of his six matches, but he's been able to figure things out and play his best tennis down the stretch to close the deal.
