"I don't want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison", Politico reported Pelosi as saying to Nadler.

His comments came after Pelosi (D-California) tried to downplay calls for impeachment coming from some portions of her party.

Home-state senator Kamala Harris drew the loudest applause during her speech on Saturday when she lit into the president.

It's unclear what Trump meant, since Mueller hasn't testified about his lengthy special counsel probe - and said last week that he wouldn't offer any testimony that expands on the final report he delivered in March to Attorney General Bill Barr. She has also sought to project unity within her Democratic Party on the path forward regarding impeachment. "You know what, I think they're in big trouble". One Congressional aide said the expectation was the court would issue a decision on McGahn's testimony in short order, which could set a precedent for other witnesses who have been instructed to defy subpoenas, like Hope Hicks and Annie Donaldson. But Pelosi has argued that launching an impeachment inquiry should only be done if there is sufficient public support and significant bipartisan backing.

This has put pressure on Pelosi, whether she is willing to admit it or not.

Nadler refused to say whether he and Pelosi agreed on impeachment during an appearance on CNN on Wednesday. "We need to begin impeachment proceedings and we need a new commander in chief".
