Trump Says He’s ‘Proud’ of Barr for Investigating Mueller Probe’s Origin

Barr taps U.S. attorney in Connecticut to investigate origins of Russia probe

Barr Orders Connecticut Prosecutor to Investigate Mueller Probe - Reports

Attorney General William Barr appointed a USA attorney Monday night to investigate the shady origins of the Russia-Trump collusion probe and whether the DOJ acted "properly" while surveilling the Trump campaign heading into the 2016 election. "This whole issue has become highly partisan and that's always treacherous waters".

He then referred to Attorney General William Barr, who said last month that "spying did occur", before he was leading the Justice Department.

Records of the FBI's investigation and sources familiar with the matter say that, while the dossier played a role, it did not prompt the FBI to open the inquiry, which was handed off in May 2017 to Mueller, who completed his probe in March. The report also drew no conclusion on whether Trump illegally tried to impede the Mueller probe.

Former CIA Director John Brennan insisted on MSNBC Tuesday that surveillance of the Trump campaign went through a "rigorous due process" and was approved by the FISA court. "It was the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the people of this country", Trump said in reference to the Russian Federation investigation. I think it's great. While speaking to reporters outside of the White House Tuesday, the president said the investigation proved there was no collusion even after special counsel Robert Mueller employed "18 angry people".

In nominating him, the White House said Durham and other nominees for us attorney jobs share Trump's vision for "making America safe again".

"I believe that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is engaged in investigative activity, and part of investigative activity includes surveillance", Wray said. Note that Durham was most recently nominated by President Trump, but has been assigned to oversee special cases in this realm by three Attorneys General - two of which were Democrats.

Durham has served in the US attorney's office since 1989, holding a number of positions, including acting USA attorney.

Durham is a career federal prosecutor who has handled high-profile investigations before, including a probe into the destruction of Central Intelligence Agency tapes in 2005 of detainees being interrogated.

The House of Commons media select committee is to investigate whether TV companies give guests enough support. A statement released this morning said the show, which has been on air for 14 years, would end.

Durham was confirmed as a USA attorney in February 2018 and had previously earned a reputation as a dogged career prosecutor tapped by previous attorneys general for other high-profile roles.

"Generally, he's got a fine reputation", said Rossman, a former US attorney for the Eastern District of MI.

Durham also ran a task force looking into allegedly corrupt dealings between law enforcement officials in Boston and James "Whitey" Bulger, a now-deceased crime gang leader.

Some Republicans, however, wanted the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel, who would have broader powers and more independence, to investigate the origins of the Russian Federation probe.
