The passing of Peter Mayhew has led to an outpouring of tributes from Star Wars fans and the actors from the legendary film franchise. Peter Mayhew portrayed Chewbacca in all the original films, and passed the torch to a new generation over the course of the filming of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
"He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock-kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth", his family said in a statement. It reads, "Peter was the loveliest man".
