The UCLA quarantine will end by Tuesday, according to the Department of Public Health.

UCLA notified 500 students, faculty and staff members who may have come into contact with the infected patient. The student had attended classes at Franz Hall and Boelter Hall on April 2, 4 and 9, while contagious, and did not enter any other buildings while on campus.

Los Angeles County public health officials issued quarantines of 24 to 48 hours until proof of immunity is established, officials said.

The number of people quarantined at UCLA continues to dwindle, while the number of people at Cal State LA increases. We have arranged for those who live on campus to be served at UCLA while in quarantine.

Across the city, Cal State LA this week sent home under quarantine orders 127 staffers and 71 student employees of a library that an infected person visited on April 11.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, those under quarantine should have no contact with others who have not been screened for immunity. Persons who may have been on-site at the date and time for any of the below locations, may be at risk of developing measles for up to 21 days after being exposed.

So far this year, in 2019, says the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we have hit an all-time record for the number of diagnoses of measles cases - a whopping 695 of them across just 22 states in 2019 - and experts think that this stems directly from the unwillingness of a small sliver of the population to get vaccinated themselves or have their kids vaccinated.

The statement from health officials in Los Angeles says the measures at the two universities were being implemented "to raise awareness among students, faculty and staff about the risks of measles after possible exposure to the disease".

Five cases of measles have recently been identified in Los Angeles County, health experts said.

Most of the cases are focused in New York, Washington, New York, New Jersey and MI, but the outbreak has continued to spread in recent weeks.

More than 76 per cent of patients were not vaccinated or did not receive the recommended two doses of vaccine, Smith said.

Fourteen of those infected had traveled overseas to countries including Philippines, Thailand, India and Ukraine. "Many countries are now experiencing widespread measles activity".

A total of 695 cases of measles have been exposed in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Measles usually causes fever, runny nose and an all-over rash but in a small number of cases can lead to deadly complications such as pneumonia and swelling of the brain. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a public health emergency in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn and ordered individuals who have not been vaccinated for measles or to face a $1,000 fine.
