Prime Minister Theresa May spoke with Miss McKee's partner Sara Canning and the rest of her family, including her mother Joan McKee, at th funeral. Same-sex marriage is outlawed in Northern Ireland.

The funeral mass of Ms McKee will be held at St Anne's Cathedral in her native Belfast on Wednesday.

McKee was remembered as a "talented and fearless young woman" who broke down barriers.
