Apple announced Monday a new video streaming service, Apple TV+, to compete with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and others.

BIG NEWS? There has been plenty of speculation that Apple will also be launching a news subscription service Monday, aggregating subscriptions and content from newspapers, magazines, and other publishers and broadcasters.

The new Apple TV app will include streaming services, cable and satellite providers, and Apple TV channels all in one place. Some of those shows already announced include a reboot of Amazing Stories from Steven Spielberg's production company, as well as a new comedy from Jennifer Anniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carrell called The Morning Show. Pricing and specific release and availability information has not yet been announced.

Apple has revealed its own video streaming service-sort of.

Apple's New Video Streaming and News Subscription Services Won't Be Cheap

It's always been known that Apple would be entering the streaming service game - and they've finally made it official with the announcement of Apple TV+.

As part of its efforts to make quick connections, Apple hired two longtime Sony television executives, Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, in 2017. Games previewed during the event encompassed a variety of genres, and Apple confirmed that all of these games will be playable offline.

"We think we've come up with a great way to bring games to more people than ever before", explained Apple Senior Product Manager Ann Thai at the company's event on Monday in Cupertino, California. Walt Disney Co, which bought 21st Century Fox, and AT&T Inc, which purchased Time Warner Inc, plan to launch or test new streaming video services this year. Apple stated that there are over 5 billion articles read every month inside Apple News, with the company stating that it's the most popular news app that's ever been made.

Apple News+ launches in the United States and Canada, where it'll be available for $12.99 per month in English and French with 30 Canadian magazines and The Star newspaper.

And then there is the new news subscription service that will also apparently cost $9.99 a month, giving users access to up to 200 magazines, including The Wall Street Journal.

The common thread is an expansion of Apple's services business, moving the company further beyond software and hardware, and a focus on privacy as a competitive advantage against Google, Facebook and other companies that rely on advertising revenue to fuel their businesses.
