Top Va. Republican Senator Edited 1968 Yearbook With Blackface Photos, Racial Slurs

Yet another Virginia politician facing questions over yearbook photos showing blackface

The delegation - consisting of the state's two U.S. senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and seven USA representatives - repeated its call for Northam to resign, and said the allegations against Fairfax "need to be taken very seriously", though it stopped short of demanding a formal investigation.

Rep. Al Green (D., Texas) vowed Thursday to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump, pointing to the racial controversies that have embroiled Virginia's Democratic leaders to argue Congress needs to fight bigotry "starting at the top".

Trump, who has weathered a wide range of scandals involving himself and members of his administration, predicted the turmoil in Virginia would help flip the state back into the Republican column in the 2020 presidential elections.

A top Virginia Republican has joined a growing list of Democrats under fire for past racially insensitive photos and costumes. "If the three failing pols were Republicans, far stronger action would be taken". Northam told his top staff Friday that he would not resign.

They'll be joined in the Team LeBron starting five by Boston's Kyrie Irving , Toronto's Kawhi Leonard and Houston's James Harden. Aldridge went ahead of four other all-star players and Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki who are special additions to the roster.

Norment says he isn't featured in nor did he take any of the photos in question. He admitted to once having worn blackface that year to impersonate pop star Michael Jackson.

The widening upheaval has stirred an outcry across partisan lines in Virginia, which in many ways is still grappling with a history of slavery and racial segregation and its legacy as the heart of the Confederacy during the American Civil War. It's also worth noting that Norment is not in the line of succession to the Governorship, but the fact that these revelations are continuing is just adding to the chaos that is enveloping Richmond even as the legislature tries to get its job done, a job which includes getting a budget for the new Fiscal Year, which begins July 1st on the calendar Virginia works under, and this isn't going to make it any easier. Fairfax faces an allegation he sexually assaulted a woman in 2004.

"I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation". He insisted their encounter was consensual.

Green said the refusal of Virginia's governor and attorney general to resign after admitting to wearing blackface "is but a symptom of a greater syndrome that now plagues our country as a result of not acting on President Trump's bigotry", the Hill reports.

The site features accommodation for young players, several pitches, an aquatic park, a gym, a medical centre and a mini stadium. The centre is located in the west of Rio de Janeiro, and according to the city's fire department ten lives have been lost.

The statement comes as the Commonwealth is reeling as the governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general are all facing their own individual scandals.

Should all three Democrats resign, the governorship would go to the state House Speaker, who is a Republican.

"It is unfortunate that in this current climate we are confronted with the use of blackface as a barometer of where we are as a society", Blow, whose real name is Kurtis Walker, posted on Instagram. He noted he was part of a seven-person team that oversaw the yearbook's publication and "cannot endorse or associate myself with every photo, entry, or word on each page".
