"When he announced he was retiring I was like "wow, you could have another three or four years the way that you're playing".

Czech Republican goalkeeper Petr Cech announced on Tuesday that he will be hanging his boots at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, his twentieth in top-flight football and fifteenth across the Premier League.

Cech has a record 202 Premier League cleansheets - 24 of those came in the 2004-05 season, when Chelsea won the championship for the first time in 50 years.

And they were joined by Arsenal, who tweeted: "For your consummate professionalism, for being the ideal role model, for the 50 clean sheets, for your honesty, your integrity and for your inspiring work with, we want to say..."

In 2015 Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned Cech's free transfer to Arsenal after he had lost his place to Thibaut Courtois, a move that then Blues boss Jose Mourinho vehemently opposed.
