Nick Naydev, a 27-year-old from Vancouver, Washington, was enjoying a cruise with his friends on the Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas when he made a decision to do something that most of us would agree is probably against the rules in the "cruise guest handbook".
The video didn't show Naydev's impact, but he survived - and posted the footage to Instagram last Friday.
When he got back onto the boat, ship security told him that he and his friends were being kicked off the cruise. He says he could "barely walk" for three days and had trouble sleeping as a result of neck, back and tailbone pain, but didn't report any serious injuries.
On his Instagram story, Kryachun posted a video showing Naydev's friends talking with cruise officials. "When I woke up I just chose to jump", he responded to a user on Instagram.
In another clip of their prank, Nick is seen swimming in the water as his friends exclaim 'oh my gosh, ' clearly relieved and surprised that their pal actually jumped.
Bernard Tomic insults Lleyton Hewitt during post-match conference
There is Jordan Thompson . there are guys out there that are showing how important it is for Lleyton to be in there. Everyone sees what you're doing out there. "You know what he's doing and I think it's wrong".
Another video was also shared which shows the daredevil swimming in the sea, while his stunned friends can be heard shouting, 'Oh my gosh'.
Royal Caribbean has since rebuked the move as "stupid and reckless behaviour" in a statement to People.
Naydev told the news outlet that he "did not think this through" before jumping from the ship.
In an Instagram comment Naydev said, "I was still drunk from the previous night".
His friends in the video were also banned, the cruise operator told Yahoo News on January 16.
What Naydev didn't reveal was that his 10-second stunt got him booted from that Royal Caribbean cruise - and all others in the future.
Naydev jumped from the balcony of his room on the 11th deck of Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas while it was docked in Nassau.
He said police spoke with him and his friends, but officers found the situation amusing and didn't press any immediate charges. "We just wanted to get a video of it and make it go viral".
"He's jumped from those kind of heights before, and we didn't really care about the consequences with the cruise company", Kryachun told the website. He was then left to find his way home from the Bahamas on his own.
