Spanish midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, has joined Ligue 1 side Monaco from English Premier League side Chelsea, the two clubs said on Friday.

The 31-year-old Spaniard captained the Blues in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and was in tears as he applauded fans at the final whistle.

The deal reunites Fabregas with Thierry Henry, who played with Fabregas at Arsenal and is now Ligue 1 Monaco's coach.

"Cesc Fabregas has today completed a permanent transfer to Monaco", Premier League Chelsea said on their website as Monaco confirmed he had signed with them until June, 2022.

Fabregas' departure from Chelsea sees him end four-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge after he joined the Blues from Barcelona in 2014, with the Spain worldwide helping the west London outfit win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup. "We have a big game against Marseille on Sunday, I'm very excited".

Avoiding serious injury helped him to play around 650 club games and to score 121 goals - winning league titles with Barcelona and Chelsea and domestic Cup competitions with all three sides.

Cup matches have offered Fabregas the main chance to impress under Maurizio Sarri, with Jorginho's arrival in the summer forcing Fabregas down the pecking order in terms of midfield places.

Key to the move was the fact that Monaco are now coached by Fabregas' former Gunners teammate Henry, with whom he won the Premier League in 2004.

The Premier League club are understood to be interested in deals for Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella and Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Leandro Paredes.
