Trump to Travel to US-Mexico Border Thursday

Donald Trump warns shutdown 'could last years'

'I'm very proud of what I'm doing', Trump says of partial US Gov't shutdown

President Donald Trump plans to visit the US southern border on Thursday, leaving Washington for the first time since the partial federal shutdown began 16 days ago over his demand for funding for a wall along the border with Mexico.

Both Democrats and Trump have stood their respective ground when it comes to funding for a border wall stretching the entire U.S. -Mexico border.

Returning to the White House, he said: "They will make an adjustment because they want to see the border taken care of".

"We can call a national emergency because of the security of our country", Trump told reporters.

Showing little empathy for the hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed or working without pay, Trump declared - without citing evidence - that most are Democrats.

As the National Park Service announced Sunday that it would start using money from park entrance fees to cover costs during the shutdown, some Democrats said that was not allowed under federal law.

The seemingly intractable budget showdown marks the first clash for Trump and Democrats, who now control the House.

Now, Trump should avoid offering Democrats the out of declaring a national emergency and attempting to build the wall with defense funding.

Germany to play Swiss in Hopman Cup final
Zverev had a glimmer of hope in the first game of the second set, 0-30, and two deuces, but the Federer serving was just too good. However, the Swiss claimed a tight 4-0 1-4 4-3 (5-4) win in the mixed doubles to claim their fourth Hopman Cup title.

"So that's a nonstarter", Schiff said on CNN.

In a press conference in the Rose Garden afterward, Trump confirmed he "absolutely" said he'd keep the government shuttered that long.

Trump is demanding over 5 billion US dollars in border security to deliver his signature campaign promise to build the border wall, whose construction and funding have been strongly rejected by Democrats.

But Democrats opposed to Trump's demand for the wall said there was no progress in talks over the weekend over how to resolve the border security issue and reopen the government.

Around 800,000 federal workers have not been paid since 22 December.

Over the weekend, the federal agency tasked with guaranteeing USA airport security acknowledged an increase in the number of its employees calling off work.

US President Donald Trump, right, and Vice President Mike Pence have held talks with Democrats over funding for the planned border wall but without success. However, she said they are looking at all different options.

Founded in 1969, Embraer is a world leader in regional aircraft manufacturing. Last year, almost 64,000 were killed, many from firearms.

Trump, however, now is saying he would agree to a steel barrier instead of a concrete wall he has long vowed to build.

Both Democrats and Republicans have attempted to pin the blame the other side for the shutdown - a disruptive political ritual nearly unique to the American system.

Collins, one of at least three Senate Republicans who've called for reopening government while the debate over the wall continues, said she'd like to see Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell bring House-passed appropriation bills to the floor. Administration officials have said they won't accept anything less than the $5.7 billion in wall funding they originally requested.

Mulvaney said he had concluded that Democrats "think they are winning this battle politically and they're vehement because they think the president is paying a price politically".

'Chuck, let me say: We've done fencing in the past, as you know, ' Hoyer said.

Pelosi said: "This action is necessary so that the American people can receive their tax refunds on schedule".

Trump will make that speech.

For the second time in as many months, the U.S. Border Patrol has resorted to firing tear gas canisters at large angry mobs seeking to break through the border fence and enter the United States illegally.
