Packers Reportedly Interview Surprising Head Coaching Candidate

He made the Super Bowl in his first season as the Colts' head coach, but he had Peyton Manning as his quarterback.

Green Bay's coaching vacancy is expected to be one of the most sought-after positions in recent memory, despite the team struggling to a 6-8-1 record this season.

That would seem to make him a good fit for Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers, but the Packers will apparently have some competition for Caldwell's services.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of schedule in comeback from injury
It actually looks like he could play tomorrow, though of course that will not be possible. 'It's a surprise. The only difference to previous year is our situation is better.

Jim Caldwell has vowed to return to coaching in the NFL. Since the coaching move, the Packers have remained mum on their search for a new head coach.

Jamaal Williams handled the heaviest workload of his young National Football League career on Sunday, playing all but five of the Packers' 90 offensive snaps against the New York Jets.

It's a surprising move from the Packers as Caldwell had two head coaching stints in the past that were not successful. He led the Colts from 2009-11, and the Lions from 2014-17, spending time with the Baltimore Ravens as offensive coordinator in between.

Trump In Iraq: No Rush To Replace Sec. James Mattis
Yet it may be tempting to read between the lines of his holiday note, given the tone and content of Mattis's resignation letter. But his resignation letter was notably critical of Trump, prompting the president to speed up Mattis's departure to January 1.

The Packers have recently interviewed former Indianapolis Colts coaches Jim Caldwell and Chuck Pagano, according to NBC and Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. After Green Bay's 44-38 win over the Jets, the Packers quarterback said he wouldn't mind if interim coach Joe Philbin kept the job.

Although the Packers have said that Rodgers won't have much to do with the coaching search, the quarterback still chose to offer some input this week.
