Ryan Zinke to Resign as Interior Secretary

Trump says on Saturday Dec. 15 Ryan Zinke leaving administration at end of year successor to be announced next week

President Trump’s Interior Chief to step down

Ryan Zinke will resign as interior secretary, President Donald Trump said Saturday.

The president then said Zinke has accomplished much during his tenure and thanked him for his service to the nation.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has put out a statement on his leaving the Trump administration, and in it and in his reported resignation letter, he seems to place the blame squarely on investigations into him.

Zinke has been scrutinized by Democrats for questionable spending habits during his time holding the position and has even been the subject of at least seven investigations by the department's inspector general according to Bloomberg News. Zinke also led the way in rolling back environmental regulations for exploration and drilling on public land.

It is still unknown who Trump will announce as Zinke's replacement. It could be said that the Zinke doctrine is not multiple use but maximum use. Representative Don Beyer - a Democrat from Virginia and an outspoken member of the House Natural Resources and Science committees - called Zinke's time in office a "never-ending stream of bad management decisions".

Mr. Zinke's job, however, has been under intense stress for months. The Department of Justice and the Interior Department have declined to comment.

"The swamp cabinet will be a little less foul without him". He became a darling of the USA energy and mining industries and a prime target for conservationists and environmental groups.

Investigators also are reviewing Zinke's decision to block two tribes from opening a casino in CT and his redrawing of boundaries to shrink a Utah national monument.

The watchdog also is investigating Zinke's decision to block casinos proposed by two Connecticut Native American tribes.

The Zinke announcement came just a week after another impending high-profile departure - that of Trump's chief of staff John Kelly - was made public.

His departure comes amid a staff shake-up as Trump heads into his third year in office.

Zinke has denied wrongdoing.
