Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee is dead at 95

The Marvel brand expanded to include comic book heroes such as Spider-Man, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Black Panther, Iron Man and Captain America. He was rushed from his home in the Hollywood Hills early this morning via ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died. Daredevil was blind and Iron Man had a weak heart.

Lee, who was born Stanley Martin Leiber in 1922, grew up in the Bronx during the Great Depression.

"Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe", he tweeted. Now, millions of fans are taking the time to remember Lee for all his work, and DC Comics is no exception. He had faced several medical issues in recent months, including a bout of pneumonia earlier this year. He began working on comics as an assistant at Timely Comics in 1939; that entity would eventually morph into Marvel Comics in the 1960s.

Lee was renowned for making brief comical cameos in each of the Marvel universe films.

"If my publisher hadn't said "let's do superhero stories, ' I'd probably still be doing "A Kid Called Outlaw, ' 'The Two-Gun Kid" or 'Millie the Model" or whatever I was doing at the time", he told CNN in 2013. Together, the two launched Marvel Comics in 1961.

The blaze also forced the partial evacuation of Malibu, a city of about 13,000 people that is home to many Hollywood celebrities. Only a day after it erupted, the wildfire near the town of Paradise had grown to almost 110 square miles (285 square km).


While there has always been debate regarding how responsible both Lee and Kirby were in the creation of these iconic, and very lucrative, characters, it is hard to deny that Lee played a large part in bringing this modern era of realism and grit to the comic book world.

In a statement The Walt Disney Company, which bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009, saluted Mr Lee's "unmatchable" life and career.

Sadly, Lee's wife Joan passed away in July of past year, and since then, there have been rumors of elder abuse, in addition to his suing his ex-business manager.

Lee is survived by his daughter, J.C., and his younger brother, Larry Lieber, another Marvel artist and writer.
