Final Fantasy XV DLC plans canceled amid Hajime Tabata's departure

The revelation came during a livestreamed Final Fantasy presentation, which outlined the company's plans for XV's forthcoming DLC packs and the newly standalone nature of XV's multiplayer mode.

All but one Episode of "The Dawn of the Future", the Final Fantasy XV DLC initially scheduled to release throughout 2019, has been cancelled. While most gamers were no doubt expecting nothing but good news, Square Enix revealed that the majority of the game's DLC has been canceled, and director Hajime Tabata has quit.

During Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV 2nd anniversary stream they shared a letter from the game's director, Hajime Tabata, who officially announced his resignation from Square Enix and the newly-formed Luminous Studios.

The only playlist on Zandhr's verified profile is also a "Best Of" the star's material, which has added to the speculation. Her latest single release comes as fans have discovered what appears to be a secret album of unreleased material.

The troubled development of Final Fantasy XV continues, even two years after launch.

Square Enix announced the news in a livestream on Thursday, November 8, noting that while Episode Ardyn will still release in March 2019, the Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis content episodes are now out of the picture. According to Eurogamer, Tabata was given the option of turning Luminous Productions into one of Square Enix's regular business divisions, or spin it off into a separate company with investment from the publisher. "The main objective of establishing Luminous Productions was to create a studio that can deliver a completely new AAA title to the global market". The development team Luminous has decided that it will now be focusing its efforts on developing an entirely new AAA title.

As for a possible Final Fantasy XV collaboration for Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida made a brief appearance to talk about the crossover, but said he couldn't say much more other than "we'll see". It's not all bad news, in other words.
