The US under President Donald Trump has been trying to corner Iran at the global level. The list of these exemptions would be announced on Monday, Pompeo told reporters during a conference call on Iranian sanctions, with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

In May, Russian oil major, Lukoil said it had decided not to go ahead with plans to develop projects in Iran at the moment due to the threat of USA sanctions.

As a result of the latest sanctions, he said the United States expects to have reduced Iranian crude oil exports by more than 1 million barrels even before these sanctions go into effect.

The sanctions will remain in place until Iran meets demands that include an end to support for terrorism and to military engagement in Syria.

If the USA does in the end follow through on its strongest threats, choking off Iranian supplies entirely, that spare capacity could be completely exhausted, leaving nearly nothing left to cover unexpected disruptions in other trouble spots. He did not say whether individual European countries such as Greece, Italy and Spain might be granted waivers. South Korea, Japan and India are expected to get a reprieve, however, and possibly China.
