Pence's Message To Oprah: 'I'm Kind Of A Big Deal Too'

Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey, in the first of several campaign stops to boost Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Thursday, told the cheering crowd that they are poised "on the precipice of a historic election".

"She goes, 'I only back candidates that I feel inspired by and that are authentic.' And notice who she didn't campaign for is Hillary Clinton", Watters said. "This ain't Hollywood. This is Georgia".

The governor's race has been plagued by accusations of voter suppression.

Abrams and Kemp are virtually tied, according to recent polling.

Speaking in the Roosevelt Room in the White House, President Donald Trump lashed out on Thursday at a woman of color.

Both candidates have taken to describing the race as a battle for "the soul of our state".

Winfrey pointed out that she's an Independent, and she votes for her "values".

Asked whether she is planning on voting for Abrams, the woman said yes - and that she has an early voting plan.

Oprah's message came as she delivered a rousing speech in the Republican-leaning suburbs of Atlanta. 'I'm not here to test any waters.

"For anybody here who has an ancestor who didn't have the right to vote and you are choosing not to vote wherever you are in this state, in this country, you are dishonoring your family", Winfrey said.

Interesting position, because local Republicans have, from time to time, touting a tax credit that has turned Georgia into a film-making force; the industry contributed an estimated $2.7 billion in direct spending in Georgia past year, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Pence said Abrams is being bankrolled by Hollywood liberals, referring to Winfrey and actor Will Ferrell.

At a campaign rally for her Republican opponent Brian Kemp, Pence said, "I've got a message for all of Stacey Abrams' liberal Hollywood friends: This ain't Hollywood".

The competing scenes - from the candidates, to the audiences, to the headliner guests - underscore the choice Georgia voters face Tuesday in one of the nation's premier midterm matchups.

Former President Barack Obama will campaign for Abrams tomorrow. President Trump will appear with Kemp on Sunday.

More than 1.5 million Georgians already have cast ballots.

Winfrey did not mention Pence or the frequent GOP broadsides about "Hollywood" outsiders.

"If that woman can get folks to eat pizza with a cauliflower crust on it, she is going to get that woman elected", she added. There's something about her that's just magnetic.

Winfrey praised her as a "change-maker" who represents the values of all Georgians.

The pitches from Pence and Winfrey clearly fit Abrams' and Kemp's respective strategies.
