The battle between Megyn Kelly and NBC executives went public Wednesday as Kelly's attorney accused the network of leaking false information about her. NBC denied the allegation and shot back, saying Kelly's side had been talking out of turn.

The Daily Mail is infamous for its hyperbolic reporting, which has brought intense criticism and lawsuits at times.

Megyn Kelly speaks onstage at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2018 at Ritz Carlton Hotel in Laguna Niguel, California, on October 2, 2018. The only hang-up? Negotiating her exit package and that massive $69 million contract. Before the cancellation was confirmed by the network, a source told ET that Kelly's show was "chaotic and dysfunctional" since its premiere a year prior.

Trump sparks outrage with ‘racist’ immigration ad ahead of midterm elections
President Trump is hoping that he gets similar results for a web video, produced for his campaign, that he tweeted out Wednesday. Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, called the new ad the "dog whistle of all dog whistles".

Kelly received swift and widespread backlash after she defended Halloween costumes that involve blackface during a segment featuring an all-white panel on "Megyn Kelly Today" last week. In the next tweet, she continued, "The DailyMail 1st published photos of my husb IN OUR HOME & then *did* photog my kids, trailed us to my daughter's school, & secretly videotaped my 7-yr-old child (her classmates too) & posted it". Freedman said the negotiations are about the "next steps" for Kelly.

Their disagreement centers on how much emphasis should be placed on Kelly's blackface comments.

One Facebook user wrote: "Megyn Kelly loses her show because she posed a question about dressing as an admired character of color if you are of Caucasian background -and yet Al Roker dresses today as a beloved character from an iconic movie who happens to be Caucasian".

The official added that verbal orders went out this past weekend to some units and additional written orders are starting Monday. The troops are legally barred from enforcing U.S. immigration law and are instead providing support to border officials.

In a subsequent statement, Freedman backed off slightly from insisting that NBC planted the story, but still called them out for not putting a stop to it. "Or are they somehow attempting to use these fabrications for some fictitious advantage in the discussions we're having?" An NBC source also says she refuses to sign a nondisclosure agreement.

Steve Burke is the CEO of NBCUniversal. "Unlike Mr. Freedman, who has repeatedly commented to the media throughout the negotiations, we respect the confidentiality of the process, and will have no comment until it reaches its conclusion", the spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline.
