James 'Whitey' Bulger dead: Notorious mob boss found dead in West Virginia prison | Daily Star

Notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger has been killed in a United States federal prison in West Virginia, according to U.S. media. Understaffing of correctional officers and using "augmented" staff - prison personnel not trained as correctional officers - has been called to the attention of the Bureau of Prisons by the union and West Virginia's congressman and senators.

"No other information will be released at this time".

News reports that Bulger is dead at age 89, citing multiple sources. He was pronounced dead soon after. Richard Heldreth, president of Local 420 of the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents workers at USP Hazelton, told WVNews there was a homicide overnight, but he wasn't told who was killed.

Bulger, who eluded federal authorities for more than 16 years before his arrest in June 2011, was serving the rest of his life in prison for a litany of crimes that included his role in 11 murders. Even the city's most powerful crime family, the Angiulos, would go to prison, based on information Bulger gave to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

New Mac Mini is faster, more powerful and black... well. Space Gray
Apple claims that "together these advancements help to reduce the carbon footprint of the new Mac mini by almost 50%". The first obvious upgrade is the option for this 13-inch laptop to be equipped with a Retina (227 PPI) IPS display.

And, from 1975 to 1990, "unbeknownst to even his closest associates, Bulger was an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant".

There was no love lost for Bulger on the Boston streets he once ruled. Bulger absconded from New England in 1995 and was not captured until 2011. Stashed inside was more than $800,000 in cash and an arsenal of firearms.

In 2013, he was convicted in the slayings, as well as extortion, and money-laundering after a sensational racketeering trial that included graphic testimony from three former Bulger cohorts: a hit man, a protege and a partner.

"It's the first I've heard of it", Jackie Bulger said when Byron Barnett broke the news to him in South Boston. Bulger was right. Four of the murders and two of the murder conspiracies of which he was found guilty were related to his gang's attempt to shoot its way into World Jai Alai.

At least six dead as heavy rain, flooding, hits Italy
The water bus system has been closed by transport officials due to the emergency although it will still run to outlying islands. Strong winds and heavy rain pummeling Italy has left three-quarters of Venice submerged in floodwater, officials said Monday.

Bulger would pen notes on his lawyer's legal pad at his cell in MA back in 2014 and have them delivered via his lawyer to Greig who was detained at a Rhode Island Jail at the time.

While she was given eight years behind bars, Bulger was sentenced to life in prison.

"The scope, the callousness, the depravity of your crimes are nearly unfathomable", U.S. District Judge Denise Casper told Bulger at his sentencing.
