UVA defeats archrival North Carolina 31-21 at Scott Stadium

UNC Tar Heels

North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams

For the first time since 2011, the Cavaliers played (and lost badly) in a bowl game last season. "I've been telling people this is not a time to (taper) off and forget how we got here". They played with more swagger than we did. Those points seemed all the more important after Carolina got the ball back and went 80 yards in eight plays, capped by Elliott's TD throw to a wide open Carl Tucker from 16 yards out on a busted coverage.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are 1-5 so far into the season.

The Tar Heels split the season series against the Yellow Jackets in 2017 and swept the Tigers in two games, adding hope for positive results on the road. "They're an ACC team and they have a lot of talent". Perkins' 16-yard pass to Butts on the first play of the fourth quarter made it 31-14.

Three plays later, UVa had covered those 35 yards, capped by Perkins' touchdown pass to Evan Butts from 16 yards out that made it 31-14 with 14:04 left. "They were more ready".

Record changes in AP Top 25 after 11 ranked teams lose
Florida State didn't get over 100 yards until mid-way through the third quarter and finished the game with -21 yards rushing. The College Football Playoff selection committee does not care about my AP Top 25 ballot.

A loser of three straight, UNC lost two of those, to Virginia Tech and Syracuse, by three points each.

Michael Carter scored from a yard out for the Tar Heels with 7:53 to play, but their last possession ended with a fourth-down incompletion as Nathan Elliott struggled against more pressure and the absence of a running game. They gained just 66 yards on the ground.

North Carolina: Elliott had a very effective first half, completing 12 of 16 throws for 132 yards, but the Tar Heels' inability to get a ground game going made things more hard in the second half. "Other than that, the majority of the time, we were in third-and-long situations, because we weren't efficient on first down".

The senior playmaker also had a 29-yard run in the first quarter which pushed him past 500 in his career, making him the only active playing in the country with more than 2,000 receiving yards and 500 rushing yards in his career. After halftime, Elliott was just 11 for 22 for 139 yards. Those four plays and 62 yards in exactly 1:00 gave the Wahoos momentum that the defense seemed to feed off of.

The film had been tied up for three years in legal disputes, including a suit between Heard and producers over nudity in the film. Pure Flix's faith-based war drama " Indivisible " fell flat, earning just $1.5 million in 830 theaters.

Virginia: The Cavaliers defense continues to impress, especially at home. Chris Peace beat his blocker and got to Elliott, stripping the ball on the sack as CB Bryce Hall fell on it. He finished with 10 catches for 108 yards and passed Billy McMullen to become Virginia's all-time leader in receptions. Virginia has allowed just four touchdowns in four home games.

The Tar Heels return to action next Saturday when they host Georgia Tech at 12:15 p.m.

Virginia continues its three-game home-stand by hosting Pittsburgh on Friday night.
