Fearing that two high-profile Florida races may be slipping away from the Republican party, President Trump launched another attack Monday on Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who polls show leading former Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis in their contest to succeed Gov. Rick Scott.
DeSantis is "best recognized for a viral, fawning pro-Trump ad this summer and his remark after Mr. Gillum's primary victory that Florida shouldn't "monkey this up".
The president is traveling to Florida this week to campaign for DeSantis, a Republican congressman who resigned to have more time to campaign for governor, in the final push ahead of the November 6 elections. Bill Nelson's advantage over Scott in the low single digits, according to most polls, both parties are bringing in the big guns for the final days of the campaign. Trump was already scheduled to visit Fort Myers this coming Wednesday.
And Gillum added that DeSantis was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

"I am eager to send a message to the president of the United States that his kind of politics, that his brand of politics, his brand of hatred, his brand of division, his brand of attempting to turn Americans against Americans, citizen against citizen, humanity against humanity, has come to an end in the state of Florida", Gillum said.
The letter says, "After learning of this organization's disturbing and anti-law enforcement position and statements, we believe that any candidate wishing to lead our state should in no way be aligned with this radical group". DeSantis denounced the calls and said he didn't know who was making them, although the group from Idaho made similar robocalls mocking California Democratic Sen.
The mayor's campaign has decried the robocalls as "abhorrent" and said that they are 'a continuation of the ugliest, most divisive campaign in Florida's history'. Documents released this month revealed that he accepted "Hamilton" tickets from an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent conducting a sting operation.
Appearing on Pod Save America, a progressive-leaning podcast, Gillum seemed to place all of the onus on law enforcement in exhibiting total restraint when dealing with suspected criminal behavior.

Florida State didn't get over 100 yards until mid-way through the third quarter and finished the game with -21 yards rushing. The College Football Playoff selection committee does not care about my AP Top 25 ballot.
DeSantis bashed Gillum for the alleged violation in a televised debate.
The question is who paid for Gillum's ticket to see the hit musical Hamilton and a night at the Millennium hotel.
He said he would never accept support from groups that call for a boycott of Israel, referencing Gillum's association with the Dream Defenders.
Gillum: "I can be free by 6 p.m". 'I'm a hardworking person. "I arrived at that theater and received my ticket from my brother. I will let others know we are open for business".
