Frank Warren explains why Billy Joe Saunders 'did not fail a test'

Billy Joe Saunders to give up WBO title to challenge licence decision

Billy Joe Saunders surrenders world title amid plans to sue over licence decision

Billy Joe Saunders current reign of being the WBO world middleweight world champion is on the edge of being no more. As soon as Saunders' failed Voluntary Anti-Doping Association urine test from August 30 came to light on September 26, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Andrade, made a deal with Kautondokwa to be on standby if Saunders couldn't fight.

The 29-year-old had meant to challenge moves to strip him of his belt but has now vacated the title ahead of a legal battle to clear his name over a positive test for the stimulant oxilofrine. Saunders' team are arguing that oxilofrine is only listed by WADA as a banned substance when it is found up within a day of competition. The low level of the chemical detected in the test supplied by Billy-Joe - ingested via a nasal spray - is not a prohibited substance when ingested "out of competition".The VADA test was conducted "out of competition" and so was not prohibited for the goal of the application of the WADA list and therefore the application of the MSAC rules to Billy-Joe.

This is not some technical legal argument.

Frank Warren, Saunders' promoter, revealed earlier Thursday that Saunders will appeal the MA commission's decision all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary.

Hurricane Michael leaves behind trail of devastation, toll reaches 17
Boats damaged by Hurricane Michael sit at the Moorings of Carrabelle marina on October 12, 2018, in Carrabelle, Florida. Power and cellphone service are starting to be restored in parts of Florida's storm-battered Panhandle.

"Cases such as these can take a considerable time to be heard and adjudicated on and, given the damaging effect these accusations of wrongdoing have had on Billy Joe, he is in no position to continue in his profession until such a time as his name has been cleared".

Warren said he will challenge the MSAC's decision in court.

The statement, which can be read below, added that Valcarel will be going to the WBO Executive Committee to talk about a possible six-month suspension for Saunders.

Walter Kautondokwa says he will shock the world and KO Demetrius Andrade when they clash at the TD Garden in Boston on October 20, live on DAZN.

"VADA bans everything. They are not recognized in Great Britain, they are not recognized by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and they are not recognized by the British Boxing Board of Control", Warren said regarding why Saunders was utilizing the nasal spray less than two weeks prior to fight night.

"The low level of the chemical detected in the test supplied by Billy-Joe - ingested via a nasal spray - is not a prohibited substance when ingested "out of competition".

The 160lb fighter failed a Voluntary Anti-Doping Assocation drug test - something that has put his immediate future completely up in the air. MSAC have simply got this wrong and cost Billy-Joe his opportunity to defend his title.
