US President Donald Trump said close ally Saudi Arabia and its king would not last "for two weeks" without US military support at a rally in MS on Tuesday.

Trump has yet to demand payment for keeping U.S. troops in the oil-rich region, but the USA president did urge them to lower oil prices in return for security last week.

"I love the king, King Salman, but I said, 'King, we're protecting you, '" Trump says at a campaign rally in MS, without elaborating on when he spoke to King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Mississippi, Trump said, "I love the king, King Salman, but I said, 'King, we're protecting you". Saudi Arabia was the U.S. leader's first stop during his first worldwide tour as president previous year.

Since the kingdom rebuffed his calls last month for a rapid production increase to offset the impact of sanctions on Iran, the president has amplified his rhetoric.

Saudi Arabia welcomed Mr. Trump for his first overseas trip as president. The price hit $85.45 on Monday, its highest since November 2014.
