Tropical Storm Kirk gaining speed in Atlantic

JACKSONVILLE Fl.- As we reside in peak hurricane season the Atlantic continues to show flashes of it's energy. There are several areas the First Coast News Storm Experts are watching closely

Tropical Storm Kirk gaining speed in Atlantic

Tropical Storm Kirk was downgraded to a Tropical Depression Sunday and could continue degenerating, said the National Hurricane Center.

As for Kirk, it was located about 950 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands and about 1,615 miles east of the Windward Islands, the 5 a.m. advisory showed.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Atlantic, sub-Tropical Storm Leslie formed in the North Atlantic Ocean and is "forecast to be a short-lived cyclone", said the NHC. However, they add it may begin weakening in the middle of the week.

"This year, despite the recent uptick in activity, the overall activity remains typical of a less active season", said Gerry Bell, lead hurricane forecaster for the Climate Prediction Center.

On Saturday, police officers searched the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party office in Male without a warrant, the party said. But the election commission's spokesman said allegations of possible voter fraud "don't have any basis in reality".

"The system we now have in the Tropical Weather Outlook near Bermuda is not the "remnant low" of Florence as the NWS office in Charleston stated in their tweet", said Michael J. Brennan in an email to McClatchy on Thursday night. The depression is moving toward the northwest near 3 miles per hour.

For Kirk, tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles to the north of the center.

Looking further north, the Hurricane Center is watching a non-tropical low pressure system forecast to develop Friday night over the central subtropical Atlantic Ocean midway between Bermuda and the Azores.

Leslie is moving a 6 miles per hour, and only a "little motion is expected today".

Trump outburst over Kavanaugh's female accuser sparks #WhyIDidntReport hashtag trend
Trump tweeted Friday that if the attack was "as bad as she says", Ford or her parents would have reported it to law enforcement. This statement chilled me to my core. "Far too many of us know that what President Trump said is simply not true", she wrote.

We also continue to track two other areas in the Tropical Atlantic. Isaac then weakened to a tropical storm as it passed through the Lesser Antilles, though it did produce heavy rainfall.

Leslie, which has 40 mph winds, has changed little in strength over the past 24 hours, according to the NHC in its 5 a.m. update. The complex would likely be a weak system if it does develop.

An approaching cold front from the northwest has stalled along the Arkansas-Louisiana border, with low pressures developing to our west in East Texas.
