The Sharks acquired two-time Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Erik Karlsson from the Senators on Thursday for a package of young players and picks, adding a world-class player to a team now expected to contend in the ultra-tough Western Conference. In return, the Senators will get a first-round pick in 2019 or 2020, centre Chris Tierney, a second-round pick in 2019 (the best of the two San Jose now has), prospect centre Josh Morris, prospect Rudolfs Balcers, and defenceman Dylan DeMelo.

In addition to the four players, the Senators will receive at least two picks, and possibly as many as three. It becomes a first if the Sharks sign him and SJ makes it to the final this season.

San Jose missed on the John Tavares sweepstakes, but still managed to land a big-time player in Karlsson.

Karlsson will face his Ottawa teammates for the first time on December 1 at the Canadian Tire Centre, while the Senators visit San Jose on January 12.

Karlsson, a two-time victor of the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman, has one year at a $6.5 million cap hit remaining on his contract before he's eligible to hit unrestricted free agency in 2019.

China welcomes USA trade talks offer as new tariffs loom
The US government accuses China of stealing intellectual property and forcing American companies to hand over valuable technology. Some of them have criticized Trump's tactics but many echo USA complaints about Chinese market barriers and industrial strategy.

After winning the Stanley Cup and returning largely the same roster for the upcoming campaign, the Capitals head into the National Hockey League season as the team to beat...or at least they were going to be.

The 24-year old Tierney was drafted 55th overall in the second round of the 2012 draft by the Sharks. Neither one was named to The Athletic's ranking of the NHL's top 100 prospects entering the 2018-19 season.

Erik Karlsson is on the move.

Most reaction to the trade has been "Ottawa did not get almost enough".

The Senators have been undergoing changes lately after off-ice issues shook their locker room.

Sony Says Nintendo Switch Has Had A Positive Influence On Games Market
Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that they would be holding a big Nintendo Direct on September 6th. Original: Nintendo's next Nintendo Direct will take place tomorrow, September 6th, 2018, at 3 PM PT.

Wilson said the Sharks felt they had to pay a high price to get Karlsson. Other moves could also occur in the coming months as GM Pierre Dorion tries to remodel the team while limiting costs for ownership. With Karlsson in the fold, it's likely the Sabres will have the Sharks pick at the next draft.

Balcers spent last season in the AHL and Norris was a first-round pick in 2017 and entering his sophomore season at MI.

Karlsson has won two Norris Trophies as the NHL's top defenceman. Getting to play on a defence corps which includes the likes of Brent Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic sounds like something he'll probably get used to pretty quickly. The superstar spent nine seasons playing for the Senators, and things certainly did not end on the best of terms.

The Sharks are set to have just over $15.5 million in salary cap space next summer - assuming the cap does not increase - with 10 players under contract.
