Italy Grand Prix Marcus Ericsson crash

Italy Grand Prix Marcus Ericsson slammed into the barrier before completing three somersaults

Lewis Hamilton gave it everything in his Mercedes - and was on provisional pole for a matter of moments - before Sebastian Vettel first and then Raikkonen bettered his time.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton delivered one of his greatest races Sunday when he wrecked Ferrari's homecoming party as he stormed to a record-equalling fifth Monza victory in his Mercedes at the Italian Grand Prix.

The Brit now leads the world championship from Sebastian Vettel by 30 points as he takes a step closer to retaining his championship.

"Yesss!" cried Sebastian Vettel as he crossed the line at Monza having taken pole with a stunning 1:19.280.

"I left him space". Vettel ended up 0.161 slower.

L'acteur a très rapidement contesté les faits et son avocat serait en possession d'"éléments forts " prouvant son innocence. " Après, si demain on me le prouve ".

While that argument is up for debate, what the 33-year-old said isn't.

Ferrari has yet to decide whether they'll continue with Kimi Raikkonen next season; that's according to the new CEO Louis Camilleri. Picture: Antonio Calanni / AP Photo. There was a little confusion in the Ferrari camp soon after as Vettel thought he had secured pole. "We speak after", the German replied. "We did a few laps but after that it was like having a day in the office when you don't have too much work to do - I was even snoozing in the vehicle at one point! " I gave him space. It's pretty much the same move that Kimi did to me (after a restart following a safety vehicle period triggered by the incident). Fernando Alonso stopped his McLaren with an unconfirmed problem on lap 10, while running in the points, while Daniel Ricciardo pulled a smoking Red Bull over exiting the second chicane just before mid-distance.

Looking ahead to the start, and the notorious first chicane, he said: "Obviously you are still always trying to get out ahead, no matter who you're racing but for sure you try to avoid contact but then again, as I said, you try to avoid that anyway".

Poleman Raikkonen maintained the lead at the start despite pressure from Vettel and a lock-up into the first corner, before Hamilton drafted the Ferraris and attacked Vettel around the outside at the Roggia chicane.

"We knew they had the pace this weekend and it was going to take something special to catch them". It's generally been that gap all weekend.

Il a reçu un fort coup de corne au début de sa faena, infligé par un fauve de 520 kilos de l'élevage de Robert Margé. La corrida a été interrompue pendant une demi-heure, le temps de sa prise en charge et de son transfert.

"It was intense", Hamilton said.

Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll completed the top ten.

"We didn't expect that, we expected a much more challenging situation but the auto felt good, we managed to get a good tow throughout qualifying and that helped us", said the teenager.

"It was one of those days when it all clicked".

The victor was also helped considerably by team mate Valtteri Bottas who led after Hamilton pitted and managed to hold up Raikkonen long enough for the other Mercedes to close the gap.
