"Program officials and flight controllers are continuing to monitor the situation as the crew works through its troubleshooting procedures", said the latest NASA report on August 30.

The United States Space Agency worked with their Russian counterparts to do the repairs.

The Soyuz spacecraft is one of three spaceships now docked at the space station.

The space station is a science and engineering laboratory that orbits 250 miles above Earth, and it has been permanently staffed by rotating crews of astronauts and cosmonauts since November 2000.

The Soyuz capsule that was leaking, one of the two at the station, arrived at the lab in June, carrying three astronauts.

The Russians were left alone to deal with the leak, and on Thursday night they patched the cracks by filling them with epoxy-based sealant and applying duct tape - both part of the standard fix kit.

After the Russian crew taped over the hole, a sealant on a cloth was stuck over the area.

The 2mm hole, which may have been caused by a micrometeorite strike, was detected in a Russian Soyuz capsule on Wednesday night.

"Program officials and flight controllers are continuing to monitor the situation as the crew works through its troubleshooting procedures", the US space agency said.

Nasa has stressed that at no point were the astronauts in any danger. Or no longer it is their coast home, too, advance December, and additionally serves as a lifeboat in case of an emergency. "This is a section of the Soyuz that does not return to Earth", NASA said. The officials have stated that the situation was stabilized for now.

The report by The Telegraph says that if it had gone undiscovered, the crew could have run out of breathable air in 18 days. According to NASA, they later used "epoxy on a gauze wipe to plug the hole completely". Orbital debris is a constant threat to spacecraft, even the tiniest specks.
