Sock wins at US Open, ends 7-match losing streak

Number one seeded Simona Halep of Romania chases down a return to Kaia Kanepi of Estonia during their 2018 US Open women's match August 27, 2018 in NY.

Playing in the first match at the rebuilt Louis Armstrong Stadium, Halep dropped her opening set against No. 44 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-2 in 28 minutes.

It was the sixth time in the Open era that the number one seed has lost in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament and the first at the U.S. Open.

This defeat was nowhere near as competitive as that encounter and it's hard to see too many positives that Halep and coach Darren Cahill will take from such a disappointing loss.
