Tribute confusion: Fox News apologizes for mixing up late Aretha Franklin with Patti LaBelle

Aretha Franklin passed away on Thursday, and fans and celebrities alike have been flocking to social media to praise the singer and her contributions to music.

The Respect singer, who died on Thursday after a battle with pancreatic cancer, was reportedly invited to perform at Trump's inauguration ceremony in January 2016 but declined the offer as she didn't agree with his political agenda.

Franklin was cemented as a superstar in the 1960's, with classic hits such as "Respect", "Think", "I Say A Little Prayer" and "Chain of Fools" making her an icon around the world.

Tributes to the 18-time Grammy victor and first-ever woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame flooded social media Thursday.

"I have a walking regimen", she said on Live with Kelly & Michael in 2014.

"Aretha Franklin had it in her contract that she wouldn't perform for segregated audiences", Trevor Noah said.

Franklin's death certificate confirms that she died at 9:50 am, while also revealing that she will be entombed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.

Franklin - who was widely known by only her first name, in true diva style - rose from singing gospel in her father's church to regularly topping rhythm and blues and pop charts in the 1960s and 1970s.

"I knew "Respect" from Otis Redding, [but] when I heard her sing it, it was nearly like hearing a whole new song".

She told Detroit station WDIV-TV that same summer, when she was 72, that she was determined to never be "grossly overweight" again, adding that she was in much better shape than previous parts of her life.
