A judge at a London court ruled on Wednesday that the process that convicted Robinson was "fundamentally flawed" as the proceedings were completed too quickly, and that he should be released from jail pending a rehearing.
Tommy Robinson update: Has Tommy Robinson been released from jail?
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, Lord Burnett said the court was allowing his appeal "in respect of the committal for contempt at Leeds Crown Court". "You lose guys like Tommy Robinson, you're not going to have a country".
Heidi Beirich, deputy director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups across the U.S., said the level of support for Robinson was "extraordinary".
"I have a lot to say, but not to you".
Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was pictured being led away from prison this afternoon surrounded by journalists and photographers.

The two leaders, both elected through populist bases, also discussed the USA deficit with Italy, which NPR reports is almost $35 billion.
Robinson was jailed in May after he filmed people involved in a criminal trial and broadcast the footage on social media.
The Leeds matter will be called into court again at some point but Robinson will remain on bail until then.
The footage, which lasted around an hour, was watched 250,000 times within hours of being posted on Facebook.
Robinson was detained outside Leeds Crown Court after using social media to broadcast details of a trial which is subject to blanket reporting restrictions.
In May past year he narrowly avoided jail over footage he filmed during the trial of four men who were later convicted of gang-raping a teenage girl.
The court dismissed Robinson's appeal against an earlier contempt of court finding relating to a court case in Canterbury, Kent.
The activist was given 10 months for contempt of court, which he admitted and a further three months for breaching a previous suspended sentence.
In his live-streamed commentary on Facebook outside the Leeds trial, he identified the defendants and the charges against them despite an order from the judge that nothing should be reported until the end of subsequent trials.
The speed at which proceedings were started also meant Robinson's hastily-found defence lawyer in Leeds had "limited opportunity" to "investigate mitigation" as well as "no opportunity to obtain character references".
They said after Mr Robinson deleted the video, there was not "sufficient urgency" to justify proceedings being taken against him.
In his written judgement, Lord Burnett said: "We are satisfied that the finding of contempt made in Leeds following a fundamentally flawed process, in what we recognise were hard and unusual circumstances, can not stand".
