Texas man escapes from police auto, rides on roof

The moment a Texas inmate attempted to escape from a moving police cruiser by clambering onto its roof has been captured on camera.

Martin Gregory Estrada, 31, of Abilene was being transferred from Wichita Falls on Wednesday when he broke the back passenger window of the Taylor County sheriff's vehicle and climbed onto its roof, authorities told KTAB-TV.

A 150-mile drive to transfer an inmate from Wichita Falls to Abilene turned into a wild ride when he broke a window and got on the roof of the moving patrol auto. The deputy pulled over when Wichita County deputies arrived, at which point Estrada allegedly tried to flee on foot and had to be subdued with a stun gun.

Video shows Estrada getting on top of the patrol vehicle and deciding on his next move.

Despite Estrada's apparent attempt to flee once the patrol vehicle pulled over along the road's shoulder, police were able to stop his efforts and detain him.

Estrada was booked into Taylor County Jail and is being held on bonds totaling $680,000, according to KTXS-TV.
