The Apollo 11 mission launched four days prior to its landing, from the Kennedy Space Center at 9.32am (Eastern Daylight Time [EDT]), with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard the rocket that would make history.

In all more than 2,000 items are being included in a series of sales conducted by Dallas-based Heritage Auctions starting on November 1. Armstrong's collection also includes a rare gold medallion.

The collection includes a variety of artifacts and keepsakes that span Neil Armstrong's life.

Greg Rohan, president of Heritage Auctions, said it handles numerous categories of collectibles that appeal to various collectors, but items connected with space seem to have a universal appeal.
