'I'm Just Getting Started': Serena Defiant After Wimbledon Final Loss

Angelique Kerber's victory against Serena Williams on Saturday gave her a third grand slam title, two years after an eight-month period in which she won the Australian Open and US Open and became the world No 1.

Williams is 23-6 in Grand Slam finals, and Kerber is responsible for handing her one of those rare defeats, at the 2016 Australian Open.

She also won the U.S. Open in 2016 and lost to Serena in the Wimbledon final, rising to number one in the WTA rankings.

Seven-time champion Williams had been bidding to claim a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown but made too many errors as Kerber ran out a comfortable victor in the final.

However, Kerber put on a textbook display of defense and accuracy to nullify her opponent's power and secure a 6-3 6-3 triumph.

For me, it would have been an interesting match-up and the competitor in me would have fancied my chances!' Speaking about the eventual tactics to beat Serena, Navratilova added: 'First and foremost with Serena, you have to get to the point. It's obviously disappointing but I can't be disappointed.

"I played here once the final already, so I knew what to expect".

Kerber continued her momentum in the second set, scurrying along the baseline, this way and that, using a combination of quickness and anticipation to track down what often appeared to be winners for Williams but were not enough to end a point.

After winning her semifinal against Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3, Kerber was asked what she sees across the net when she goes up against Williams.
