Roman Michael Ondaatje "the English patient", which is a fascinating story of love in time of war, won a special "Golden man Booker prize", which the work has received as the best book for the century of existence of the awards.

The Golden Man Booker, the one-off award marking the Man Booker Prize's 50thanniversary celebrations, was chosen by the public and revealed on Sunday.

It was adapted into a multiple Oscar-winning film in 1996 starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Ralph Finnes. The book won the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction.

The 50th anniversary of the prize is being magnified globally with Man Booker author events at worldwide literary festivals across the world.
