Cedella Roman, who had been visiting her mother in British Columbia, was jogging on a Canadian beach when she accidentally stepped over the global border into Washington state in May.

Cedella Roman, 19, ran across the border just south of the town of White Rock in Canada's British Columbia, into the USA state of Washington on the evening of May 21, she told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The border patrol officers put Roman inside a caged vehicle and brought her to a detention center in Tacoma operated by the Department of Homeland Security. "They asked me to remove all my personal belongings with my jewelry", she said. Ferne said that officials in Tacoma told her that she must go to Immigration Canada to ensure that Roman was permitted to be brought back to Canada. She then had to take the documents back to Immigration Canada where they determined Roman was eligible to be released.

Ferne said the lack of clear border signs had led to her daughter's predicament. -Canadian border, according to the story, but the officers said security cameras had caught her crossing the border and entering Blaine illegally. She was discharged on June 6, according to USA government documents obtained by CBC News.
