Hurricane Bud is the sequel to last week's Hurricane Aletta, which was eventually downgraded to a tropical storm.

Hurricane Bud formed on Saturday, June 9 around 5 p.m. EDT as Tropical Depression Three-E. It's now churning up waters more than 300 miles west of Puerto Vallarta and 400 miles south of Cabo San Lucas.

The disturbance will likely produce locally heavy rainfall across portions of Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and the Yucatan Peninsula through Thursday, the Hurricane Center said. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.

A Tropical Storm Watch "means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case within the next 24 through 48 hours", the NHC said. However, the image also showed the eye was obscured by high clouds.

Up to nine hurricanes and four "major" depressions with sustained winds of at least 100mph have been predicted by United States government, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Bud's eyewall, containing its strongest winds, will remain far off the southwest Mexican coast.

Aletta is centered just over 500 miles south-southwest of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. Bud is now a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

Forecasters on Tuesday said the cluster of rough weather had a 10 percent chance over the next two days of becoming the second storm of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season. The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 millibars.

With maximum sustained winds of 115mph, Hurricane Bud is expected to rip through the western coasts of Mexico in the coming days.
