Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Mode is a Mistake

How to Watch the Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Community Reveal Event

Black Ops 4 Battle Royale Mode is a Mistake

Treyarch's David Vonderhaar announced the new mode and said it would offer "the kind of fast paced action" that the Call of Duty series is known for.

Treyarch chairman Mark Lamia also confirmed at the end of the event that Black Ops 4 will not have a traditional single player campaign. This includes over 100 custom mutations that allow players to change the rules of gameplay, like zombie speed, zombie health, trainability, zombie type, player damage, and magic box functionality.

Blackout was described by Treyarch as "battle royale the Black Ops way".

We are doing this, but we are doing it the Black Ops way.

AT&T and Verizon will carry the Red Hydrogen One smartphone
RED is no longer taking pre-orders, which had been priced at $1295 for an aluminum version and $1595 for a titanium model. The biggest takeaway from Brownlee's video of the Hydrogen One prototype, though, may be how big the phone is.

No single-player. A battle royale mode. Activision began the event with a sizzle reel recapping each of the individual installments in Treyarch's Black Ops series, which has shockingly been nearly a 10-year journey. According to the developers there won't be any wall run or thrust boost. This means that you'll nearly always still be able to shoot even if you're calling in a scorestreak, mantling, or throwing a grenade. Instead, Black Ops 4 will feature a manual healing system that required a player to jab a stun into the arm. More details will presumably follow in the coming weeks, but I'm sure there's some excitement with this announcement. Synergy is the operative word in Black Ops 4's multiplayer.

"This is by far the biggest investment in weapon systems and combat platform that we've made to give you the most rewarding and visceral experience by pushing the state of art on weapons visuals, animations and sound effects". The three modes that were revealed were its tactical-focused multiplayer mode, the return of the undead with Zombies, and the battle royale mode known as Blackout. This was all introduced via some slightly boring pre-rendered cut scenes but there will be three unique maps: IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead. Trying to tell stories that make sense within the Call of Duty universe seems to have become increasingly hard for developers, which is exactly why modes like Zombies exist.

And lastly a short teaser for a map called "Blood of the Dead", which is a sequel to Black Ops 2 fan favorite map "Mob of the Dead". How this will be monetized has yet to be revealed but expect skins/lootboxes/unlockables and DLC to be purchasable.

"You get in the rhythm like you do with reloading in a Call of Duty game".

Titled "Blackout", this upcoming mode was specifically referred to as a Battle Royale experience.

It's an interesting statement: there were suggestions online that because Call of Duty moved away from the single-player experience this time, other titles would follow suit - but that's just something Treyarch are doing for this title. The Black Ops 4 reveal was lackluster and many were already disillusioned with Call of Duty to begin with.

As for the game's bread and butter, the core player vs. player multiplayer experience has seen some revamps, as well.
