Under federal law, an official who "knowingly and wilfully falsifies information" on a financial disclosure could face criminal charges.

Trump long denied knowledge of the payment, often directing reporters to his outside counsel when pushed on the subject.

In the documents, Trump also formally disclosed that he reimbursed his personal attorney more than $100,000 past year, apparently in connection with the payment of hush money to a porn star.

"I'm giving you a fact now that you don't know".

However, the payment was not revealed in that filing. "Mr. Trump's disclosure today conclusively proves that the American people were deceived by Mr. Cohen, Mr. Trump, Mr. Schwartz, the WH, and Mr. Giuliani", Avenatti said.

The device which D'Elia was using at the time of his death was produced by Smok-E Mountain, a Philippines-based vape manufacturer. The owner of Lizard Juice, an e-cigarette retailer in Florida, said he does not think such vaping pens are "safe enough".

Both Trump and Cohen have claimed that the president was unaware of the payment, which was made to Daniels - whose real name is Stephanie Clifford - to stop her talking about the affair just before the 2016 election.

"If DOJ investigates and determines that president Trump knew of his debt to Cohen when he filed last year's report, there will be reason to suspect that his omission of the debt from last year's report was 'knowing and willful, ' which would be a crime", Walter Shaub, the former head of OGE who is now the senior director of ethics at the Campaign Legal Center said.

The documents were released by the US Office of Government Ethics on Wednesday.

The Trump Organization referred questions about the disclosure report to the president's lawyer Sheri Dillon of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. But campaign finance law treats personal loans as contributions and the $5,400 limit would have applied.

"OGE has concluded that the information related to the payment made by Mr. Cohen is required to be reported and that the information provided meets the disclosure requirement for a reportable liability", the agency said. Government ethics experts have waited with bated breath to see if the president's financial disclosure forms would address the alleged reimbursement, and now it appears they do. That previous filing, Trump's first as president, covered a 16-month period, making the two numbers roughly comparable.
