Two people have been seriously injured in a plane crash at Orange Airport shortly after 7pm on Tuesday evening.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau confirmed the aircraft involved in the accident was a Cirrus SR22.

The two occupants, a man and woman, are being airlifted from the scene to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering critical burns.

"The aircraft, with a trainee pilot and instructor on board, was conducting a training flight at the time of the collision", it said in a statement.
