US clothing retailer Gap has apologised to China over a T-shirt with a map showing the mainland but omitting TaiwanMore

Gap took action after photos began circulating on the Chinese social media site Weibo of a T-shirt with a map that did not include Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing regards as Chinese territory.

"The reason some Chinese netizens believe that it was intentional is because all of the other T-shirts in the "City T-Shirt in Jersey" range: San Francisco, Paris, Japan, and Canada are decorated with national flags rather than a fake map", the paper added.

"Gap Inc respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China", the statement reads.

According to the BBC, US clothing brand Gap has apologies after selling T-shirts that showed an "incorrect map" of China. "We sincerely apologize for this unintentional error", Gap said in a statement, according to China's Global Times newspaper.
