Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was sitting up and talking to his family, reports said Tuesday, as he recovers from emergency surgery following a brain haemorrhage.

The Manchester Evening News reports that former United defender Rafael da Silva "broke down in tears" when he found out that Ferguson had suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Young was signed by Ferguson for United in 2011 and won a Premier League title under the legendary Scot - British football's most successful ever manager.

Ferguson was last seen on the Old Trafford pitch on April 29 paying tribute to long-time managerial adversary Arsene Wenger. "The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery". It was shocking, it's sad, but I know his character.
