Police said Houk is a registered sex offender from OR who is on parole for a sex offense.

The Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau began the pursuit about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles, with the California Highway Patrol taking over the chase when the motorhome entered the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway, through the Newhall Pass and into Santa Clarita and north of Castaic.

The motorhome continued to make its way towards Bakersfield as CHP units followed the motorhome on Highway 99.

In another interview with someone at county legal aid, the documents say, Houk said he "was so ashamed" and needed police to stop him. Rodriguez added the police were trying to be as patient as possible with the driver as it was believed the other 11-month-old child was still inside the RV.

A police chase ensued for more than three hours when deputies tried to talk with the woman's husband, Stephen Houk.

Houk was on parole after being convicted of sex with a child under the age of 14, deputies said.

Houk, who was on parole for felony sodomy in OR, led police on a chase Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles after deputies tried to talk to him about a report that he had threatened his wife, Harris said.

In Houk's case, it was good for one Odyssey-like four-hour police chase through a large swath of Southern California. The 46-year-old is sought in Santa Clarita for assault with a deadly weapon, child abduction, terrorist threats and evading authorities.

Its uniqueness leads him to speculate that there may be a whole scroll that has disappeared, or at any rate, not been found yet. Other fragments have been identified as belonging to the Books of Deuteronomy, Leviticus and Jubilees.

The motorhome then drove northbound on the 170 Freeway past the San Fernando Valley up Interstate 5, according to LAPD officials. The only limiting factor seemed to be the Dolphin's gas tank.

But the chase - at least this part of it - was headed to an end.

Police surrounded the RV and appeared to be trying to negotiate with someone. At approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, detectives were able to locate the two children unharmed inside the vehicle, according to officials.
