On Tuesday, Atlanta Police Department Major Michael O'Connor told reporters, "we're open to any and all possibilities at this time". Police are not ruling out the idea that Cunningham may still be alive.

The search for clues in the shocking disappearance of Timothy Cunningham has turned up some unusual loose ends. But they've found no trace of Cunningham.

Atlanta Police are now holding on to his cell phone as part of their missing person's investigation.

Cunningham's parents' agony increase as in four instances police told them about a body being found, only to later find that it was not that of their son's. There's been no sign of the 35-year-old epidemiologist.

"It takes you to a place that the light is not shining in", his dad, Terrell Cunningham, told the network. "He just doesn't do it". According to Cunningham's CDC bio, he is now a team lead with the CDC's Division of Population Health and trained with the CDC as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer. He holds a master's and a doctor of science degree from Harvard's school of public health.

Neighbors have helped in the search for Cunningham. The CDC called Cunningham "a highly respected member of our CDC family", in a statement sent to ABC News.
