A Hizb-ul-Mujahedin militant, now in police custody, was killed and a policeman was injured when suspected militants tossed a hand grenade into a police station in Jammu and Kashmir's southern Pulwama district, the police here said. In the incident constable Mehraj Din was also injured, a police spokesman said. According to police spokesperson Manoj Pandit, Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, who was in custody of Tral police tried to escape from the police station wearing a burqa. "We are investigating how the burqa was brought inside the police station and how Chopan escaped from the toilet". "Around 12.30 p.m., Chopan was near the main gate of the police station when a grenade was lobbed from the outside". "Chopan was arrested in Sopore previous year for killing an SPO in Tral".

While the police say the militant was trying to escape in a burka, when "his associates hurled the grenade", locals allege it to be a case of custodial killing.
