It was looking like the special relationship was on shaky ground as the foreign secretary waited for the USA secretary of state to arrive from visiting the new American embassy in south London.
"We have a team traveling - actually, they're coming to Europe", Tillerson said according to the U.S. reporter traveling with him.
The secretary said he plans to address the matter by hosting for a working dinner Germany, France and Italy, countries the USA has had previous informal talks with about the deal, as well as the European Union.
"I think there is a common view among the E3 that there are some areas of the JCPOA (nuclear deal) or some areas of Iran behaviour that should be addressed", Tillerson said in London, referring to the European signatories.
A day after similar talks in London with British officials, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian to make the case in what were expected to be tense discussions.
Schalke threaten to drop Bayern-bound Goretzka
Leon Goretzka has reacted after Schalke fans unfurled a number of insulting banners at their most recent game. The Gelsenkirchen-based club say they did "everything possible" to keep the talented midfielder.
On January 12, Trump warned the United States would pull out of the agreement unless its "terrible flaws" were fixed -the so-called "sunset clauses" allowing Iran to gradually resume nuclear activities in the next decades.
"We recognize and fully appreciate Turkey's legitimate right to protect its own citizens from terrorist elements", he said.
Earlier Monday, Tillerson became the highest-ranking US official to visit the new American embassy in London, a building that Trump has derided for its cost and location.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he wanted to work with European allies and Congress to fix what he called "disastrous flaws" in the 2015 nuclear accord signed under his predecessor, Barack Obama. Addressing the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, he said Washington will "immediately" withdraw from the deal if it is not fixed.
But even before the shutdown, the State Department had already played down Tillerson's visit to the embassy, which opened last week, due to controversy over Trump's refusal to inaugurate the new building.

Asked when there would be a ribbon cutting ceremony, Johnson said: "At some point we're going to do it, but there's no urgency to that".
Tillerson will then travel to Davos, Switzerland, where from January 24-26, he will participate in the 2018 World Economic Forum. If it can not support a future Security Council resolution to that end, it should abstain, Tillerson said. "I treasure Boris's relationship with me personally".
As part of his United Kingdom visit, Tillerson met Theresa May in Downing Street, a spokesman for the prime minister said.
"They discussed the continuing depth and breadth of the special relationship", a spokesperson said.
