Trump boasts of 'unprecedented success' amid shutdown, Women's March

According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, the unemployment rate for women aged 20 and older has been falling steadily since 2012, years before Trump took office.

Activists say Trump's policies rolling back birth control and equal pay protections have propelled many women into activism for the first time. At the Maplewood station, marchers on one side of the platform headed to the Morristown march held an impromptu rally with fellow marchers on the other side of the station headed to the NY march. Thousands of people in New York alone have already signed up and as of Friday morning, almost 85,000 people had registered to march in the state, according to The New York Times.

Protesters and speakers focused on their next move: fighting Trump at the ballot box.

One of the biggest protest events is due to take place Sunday in Las Vegas, where a concerted effort is being made to push for voter registration in bids to promote a Democratic Party Senate candidate against the state of Nevada's incumbent Republican Senator Dean Heller in November 2018 elections.

I know that the trauma of those events are still with me today and that's what drives me to the voting booth, that's what allows me to listen to the women who are still in silence.

Analysts Showing Optimistic Trends For Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA)

Trump responded on Twitter by touting what he said were economic gains of the past year that benefited women.

"Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election!"

In Palm Beach, Florida, home to Mr Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, several hundred people gathered carrying anti-Trump signs as they prepared to march.

One of the biggest marches was in NY, where 37,000 people had signed up on the march's Facebook page.

The march in 2017 was an immediate expression of anger and frustration against Trump's election, this year's march is a more coordinated one.

Government shutdown impacting national parks
The shutdown of many basic activities, like trash collecting, also has many environmental and preservation groups concerned. Additionally, sensitive cultural areas on all public land may see restricted access to protect the artifacts and objects.


"Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy".

Other national co-chairs include Linda Sarsour, Tamika Mallory and Carmen Perez, among others.

Cathy Muldoon, a high school librarian from Dallas, Pennsylvania, took her two teenage daughters to the NY rally and said marching gives people hope.

Since last year's march, women have become more vocal and that is a positive sign, said Cathy Mutz, 63, a retired nurse from Chanahan, Illinois.

Dezie Woods-Jones, the California president of Black Women Organized for Political Action, this morning issued a statement encouraging black women to participate in the march.

The Nevada effort is the first of what will be a national tour of swing states, including MI and Florida. The wave of activism also seems to have led to a record number of women putting their names on ballots for 2018.
