The tragic fire incident at Kamala Mills compound in Mumbai that claimed the lives of 15 people seems to have woken up Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from its slumber.

The Mumbai's Bhoiwada court on Monday sent the two managers of "1-Above" pub arrested in connection with the Kamala Mills fire tragedy to police custody, till January 9. "After demolition, the restaurants, hotels and malls have been warned that they should comply with fire safety norms strictly or face action", said a senior civic official. Referring to Saturday's crackdown on illegal structures at restaurants, Nirupam said, "This means the BMC knew the illegal structures and still kept quiet for so long".

The incident, in which 11 women and two US-based men were killed, happened at a popular pub and restaurant called Mojo's Bistro and One Above in the commercial complex Kamala Mills at Lower Parel in Mumbai. He added that officials would also face criminal cases if an inquiry indicted them of being "deliberately negligent".
